SACAP a Cultural Community

Welcome to the Southern Aroostook Cultural Arts Project website. We invite you to explore. Better yet, visit southern Aroostook County in person and stop by our headquarters at 66 Main St. in historic downtown Houlton, Maine (one of the undiscovered "top 100 small art communities in America.") It is a place where ingenuity and creativity exist so prevalently that it is almost taken for granted. We are working now to build an organization with some paid staff to sustain and grow what we have started.  SACAP is a 501(c)3 organization.

Traditional crafts are a way of life rather then a vocation for most. The area is also the hometown to many musicians including broadway performers, musicians and songwriters who travel far and wide. SACAP's also boast fine artists and fine craftsman producing painting,  photographs, musical instruments, pottery, jewelry, textile arts and items from wood whether hand carved or turned. Houlton is home to a world renowned Outsider artist, Jerry Cardone, “the Dinosaur Man.” Many of these art forms can be seen at our shop, Visions which sells work of 63 regional artists. Several of our traditional art forms have been celebrated in the Blue Moon Gallery which has sponsored shows celebrating the work of local craft guilds, see our resume for a complete listing.

Come and meet our friendly folk and support our way of life through purchase of an item from the hearts, hands and minds of regional artists or make a donation to help sustain our work in bring this creativity and wonder to the fore. See Google Map
